Phuket Island is located off
the southwest coast of Thailand, 885km south of Bangkok. It is 48 km
(30 miles) long and covers 550 sq km (210 sq miles). On the west side
it faces the Andaman Sea; on the east coast is Phang-nga Bay which includes
some spectacular, unusually shaped islands easily accessible by boat
from Phuket. From the north the 700 m (765 yd) Sarasin Bridge connects
the island to the mainland making it easy to get to and from by road.
The island ends in a point called Cape Prom Thep.
